  I know this thread is old, but I'm going to comment anyway because I think this topic is really important.

  This sort of thing didn't stop after the 70s and 80s, not everywhere anyway. My mother was baptised in 1992, when I was four years old, and I went through this and so did many kids in the hall I grew up in. The parents I knew who weren't beating their kids at the meetings were looked down on and other families didn't want to associate with them because their kids weren't "properly disciplined".

  I'm going to try to get hold of a copy of this book.

  When I saw this one on jw.org I thought it was disgusting...but typical. Their bible students are never allowed to make intelligent comments and they always have to end up swallowing the bullshit.

  This is what I remember from my teens. Whenever their was a big convention they would go on about it like that was the only one you could go to, and then they would look funny at you if you had to go to a different one (especially the internationals).

  i am vocal visible apostate with a transgender kid i support publicly and i am getting HUGGED in public by an active witness; WHY??

  my initial withdrawal from the cult about 5 years ago or so, was as a fader, but now there is no doubt i am so over the cult, having publicly sat on the board of the local pflag chapter!

  my bumper stickers declare don't believe everything you think and stop the violence; legalize marijuana (also a generic pflag sticker)... i am out and i aint coming back and i denounce the cult as a cult, i never call it anything else... .

  today at the local food co-op a congregant saw me and bee-lined it over to hug me!

  My Book of Bible Stories- Sex and Violence

  on a previous post on the bible's sex-violence several mentioned children and the yellow book (1978 version).

  i will compile a list here.. one only needs to go to story 6 to find a man smashing his brothers skull in and picture of his brother's blood on the ground.

  the very next story 7 has pictures of violence, clut worship, drunkeness, (unimplied sex).. the next story 8 shows a giant beating a person the death while holding them with one hand.

  Also, the stories I heard to enforce obedience constantly throughout my childhood were just sick. They usually ended in someone dying a horrible death (complete with graphic descriptions).

  Protect the elderly

  this weeks km is telling elders to arrange for group studies with people in local nursing homes, with instructions on how to word things when speaking to the directors etc.. they are clearly trying to get to people who may not be entirely able to think for themselves or who may lack critical thinking and yet may have money to leave to them.. what can you do?.

  well, if you wanted to, write a short and simple letter or email to your local care home, perhaps directly even speak to the director yourself... warn them about the brainwashing and danger of breaking up of families etc.

  the km says they should identify themselves as jw's... .

  Frazzled UBM, that's so true about the messages. I don't remember if the stuff about birthdays was in "My Book of Bible Stories" or in "Listening to the Great teacher", but the two examples given of birthdays both had people getting their head chopped off.
